People often use the term “Mediterranean diet” to describe a diet high in unsaturated fats, like those found in olive oil, avocados and nuts, along with plenty of fruits, vegetables and complex carbohydrates. That said, there’s no single “Mediterranean diet,” since more than 15 countries border the Mediterranean sea, and, of course, the diets vary widely within and among those cultures. However, the eating habits of most of those countries involve the unsaturated fats and plant-based foods I just mentioned.
